Larchwood Casino Press Conference

South Dakota Democratic gubernatorial candidate Scott Heidepriem, along with his Republican selected running mate businessman Ben Arndt, announced yesterday at the building site of the Larchwood, Iowa casino that when elected they would counter the casino with a South Dakota based casino. The Iowa casino is projected to take as much as $60 million out of South Dakota annually along with $13.5 million in tax revenue. Both candidates indicated, that while they opposed more gambling, gambling was already here in the form of the Larchwood casino and that because of Iowa law which mandates the casino be built with Iowa companies and staffed with Iowa vendors, Iowa would reap the economic gain while South Dakota inherited the problems associated with it.
