Company Founded by “World’s Greatest Political Adman” Signs on to Spearhead Gubernatorial Advertising Strategy

Sioux Falls – The Scott Heidepriem for Governor Campaign announced today it is hiring the Minneapolis-based independent political consulting firm founded by the person Slate called “the world’s greatest political adman.”

North Woods Advertising’s Bill Hillsman, the creator of some of the most successful and attention-getting communications campaigns in American political history, will direct the Heidepriem campaign’s advertising and media strategy.

Hillsman and North Woods Advertising (http://www.NorthWoodsAdvertising.com/) have won a number of political, television and marketing communications awards, including the American Marketing Association’s Grand EFFIE, awarded for the most effective marketing and advertising campaign in the nation. North Woods Advertising is the smallest company ever to win the Grand EFFIE. The company also has won numerous American Association of Political Consultants POLLIE Awards, for the best political advertising in the country, and even an EMMY. Hillsman, a Chicago native, has also been recognized as one of the 100 best marketing people in America by Advertising Age.

North Woods is perhaps best known for the creative television ads it produced in Democrat Paul Wellstone’s longshot upset U.S. Senate victory over incumbent Republican Rudy Boschwitz in Minnesota in 1990, as well as independent Jesse Ventura’s stunning 1998 gubernatorial campaign victory in Minnesota. Hillsman is also the founder of Independent Voters of America, and his longtime work with independent candidates and study of independent voters has made North Woods the nation’s foremost experts on that fast growing political demographic.

“We are delighted to have Bill Hillsman and North Woods Advertising join the Heidepriem gubernatorial team. Bill’s expertise– rising above politics, reaching out to all voters with creative and honest messages, and winning campaigns that political insiders did not think possible– speaks for itself,” Heidepriem campaign manager Steve Jarding said.

“We believe it is time to get back to a fiscally responsible, open, and accountable government in South Dakota, and Hillsman’s passion for better, non-partisan government solutions will help us communicate that vital message to the voters of South Dakota. His addition to our campaign team gives us a better chance to be successful and turn our state around,” Jarding said.
