We believe we should do more than talk about making government smaller. People deserve action, especially in these tough times. Democrats support combining the functions of the State Treasurer and the Commissioner of School and Public Lands. In 1889, it may have made sense to have separate offices, but technology is a wonderful thing and it is time for state government to start using it. We need to make smaller, smarter government. State government has hundreds of boards and commissions; some are no longer needed and others can be downsized.
